LESCO Corporate Offices: On Tuesday, engineers and workers from the Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) staged a protest, demanding protection from lawless people who conduct power theft.
The demonstration was held from the Lesco Headquarters to the Civil Line Police Station under the supervision of the LESCO Engineers Association and the All Pakistan WAPDA Hydro Electric Workers Union.
On Monday, Executive Engineer Amir Nawaz and Shalamar Sub-Division SDO Salahuddin were attacked and severely injured. During the course of preventing energy theft, Line Superintendent Kashif and lineman Muhammad Khan of the Hamza Town Subdivision were both attacked and injured.
Union representatives told the audience that 50,000 cases had been filed against electricity thieves, but not a single individual had been punished.
Also, they have demanded for police team whenever they go on a raid for electricity theft.
Union Secretary General Khurshid Ahmad and LESCO Engineers Association Secretary Engineer Riaz Ahmad addressed the gathering, claiming that power theft and the introduction of levies in bills have raised electricity rates.
They requested the caretaker Prime Minister Mr. Anwar Ul Haq Kaakarr to provide safe and healthy working conditions for field employees while on duty and to bring the suspects to justice.
