Siraj ul Haq Announced Countrywide Protest on 2 September

Last Updated On August 27, 2023 By John Thomas

Lahore: On this Saturday in a Seminar, the Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) called a protest over the excessive electricity prices.

JI Emir Sirajul Haq lashed out at political opponents and the caretaker administration during a seminar in Lahore. Ameer Said “The caretaker government is following in the footprints of previous corrupt govt which are not favourable for Pakistan”

“My electricity bill increased three times in one month.” People are committing suicide which is a consequence of rising inflation and cost of living.

“Every house has received an Rs. 50,000 electricity bill on average,” Mr. Haq added.

He also added that the Jamat-e-Islami would stage the power show outside of the Power Distribution Firms (DISCOs like LESCO and IESCO etc).

Earlier today, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar called an emergency meeting in Islamabad on Sunday to discuss the rising cost of power and consumers’ inflated bills.

The prime minister has requested that the Ministry of Energy and power distribution firms should provide a thorough briefing on this matter ASAP in his office.

The meeting is anticipated to deliberate on providing maximum help to the public in terms of electricity costs.

Separately, the interim prime minister said on his X (previously Twitter) profile that he has called an emergency meeting at the PM House to discuss these concerns and will undertake consultations to provide maximum relief to electricity customers.

The base ticket has risen by Rs. 15 following a 50% to 80% spike in electricity tariffs over the last year and a half.

Because of the record-breaking prices, the public is getting angry and people are on road across the country to protest the government. People are forced to sell their Jewelry and household to pay the electricity bills which is totally unfair.
