LAHORE: The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has accused the Lahore Metro Bus administration of engaging in electricity theft.
According to a LESCO spokesperson, the inspection team from Bhati Gate Sub-Division discovered that the Lahore Metro Bus Service management was pilfering electricity.
This was evident as one phase of their power meter was found to be inactive, leading to a substantial financial loss for LESCO, estimated in the millions of rupees.
In response to the findings, the inspection team confiscated the meter and imposed a detection bill of 24,000 units on the Metro Bus administration.
LESCO’s Chief Executive Officer, Engineer Shahid Haider, affirmed the commitment to uphold the anti-electricity theft campaign without any bias.
Furthermore, LESCO took disciplinary action against an Assistant Lineman (ALM) named Babar Ali, who was allegedly involved in facilitating electricity theft by supplying power to a LESCO defaulter. Following an operation by SDO Mirza Aqeel Baig on Kalakhatai Road in Faqir Town, Muhammad Boota was caught stealing electricity through an illicit meter installation.
Subsequent investigations implicated ALM Babar Ali in the theft, leading to his suspension. A case has been registered against him for electricity theft and abetting.
Another incident involved a meter reader named Ejaz Shah from College Road Sub-Division, who was apprehended by an inspection team for stealing electricity by tapping into the main transmission line in an area along Wahdat Road.
A case has been filed against Shah at the Wahdat Colony Police Station, and departmental action has been initiated against him. The LESCO spokesperson emphasized the ongoing efforts to combat electricity theft and maintain accountability within the organization.
